# The shortest and longest wait for each surgery

The widest published spread in 2024–25 was for Dupuytren's contracture surgery: **18 days** at South Coast District Hospital in South Australia, against **1231 days** at Sunshine Hospital in Victoria.

Reference period 2024–25 (1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025) · released 28 May 2026.

The same surgery can have a published median ten times longer at one public hospital than at another. For each surgery type that at least two public hospitals published a figure for in 2024–25, this page names the hospital with the shortest median and the one with the longest. A long median is a measured fact about surgery that already happened, not a judgement of a hospital: case mix, size and demand all differ. No hospital here is called best or worst, and a suppressed figure is never treated as a number.

The shortest and longest published median wait per surgery type, 2024–25, for surgery types where at least two public hospitals published a figure. Closed hospitals and suppressed figures are excluded. Every figure was released on 2026-05-28.
